Zeus is a large and handsome 2 year old brown Dobermann currently living in foster care and searching for an experienced, committed home that understands the wonderfully demanding nature of the breed.
A very sociable and affectionate boy, Zeus absolutely loves people and greets everyone with huge enthusiasm. He is a true “velcro” Dobermann who craves companionship and wants to be involved in every part of daily life with his caregivers. He enjoys outings, attention and being close to his people at all times.
Like many young male Dobermanns, Zeus is full of character and comes with plenty of typical Dobermann quirks. He can be pushy, boundary-testing and quite demanding at times, so he will need a confident and experienced owner who is willing to continue his training and provide clear, consistent guidance. Zeus can become mouthy with hands when overexcited and will also demand bark when he wants something, particularly around meal times or when he is ready to come out of his crate. These behaviours are manageable but will require ongoing work and structure within the home.
Zeus is a big boy and while he has good intentions, he will not suit a first-time Dobermann owner. He would greatly benefit from an adopter willing to enlist the support of a trainer to help channel his energy and intelligence positively, allowing him to become the very best version of himself.
In the home, Zeus is fully toilet trained and crate trained, and he settles very well at the vets where he is described as extremely well behaved. However, he cannot be trusted to roam unsupervised either indoors or outdoors, as he has a habit of eating items he should not. Zeus has previously undergone two major abdominal surgeries following blockages caused by ingesting foreign objects, so careful management is absolutely essential. For his own safety, he will need to be crated when left alone and supervised closely at all other times.
This management also extends to toys. Zeus loves balls and squeaky toys, but due to his history they must only be used under supervision and never left with him unattended.
Zeus has had some struggles maintaining his body weight following his surgeries and also suffers from a severe allergy to chicken. He is currently making very positive progress in foster care and adopters will need to commit to continuing the specialist diet recommended by the rescue in order to maintain his health and condition.
Zeus has previously lived with another dog and could possibly have a female canine companion. He is reactive to cats and has a high prey drive, so a cat/small furry/bird-free home is essential.
Zeus is neutered, vaccinated and ready to find a home capable of embracing all of the larger-than-life qualities that make him who he is. Beneath the cheeky behaviours and demanding nature is an incredibly loving, affectionate and loyal dog who simply needs an experienced home willing to understand his needs, provide structure and continue guiding him through life.
For the right person, Zeus will be an exceptionally rewarding companion and a dog who will give back every ounce of love invested in him.
