Cerberus is a handsome 3-year-old Black & Tan male who will shortly be arriving with us and is now looking for his forever home.
He is chipped, neutered, fully vaccinated, and we hold his full medical and breeder history on file.
Cerberus is a big, affectionate lad who absolutely adores people and thrives on attention. He’s great with children and has been living with a toddler, however he is quite boisterous and energetic, so we are looking for a home with older, dog-savvy children as he may accidentally knock over little ones.
He enjoys his walks but currently pulls on the lead and isn’t getting enough exercise, which means he’s carrying a few extra post-Christmas pounds. Cerberus would really benefit from an active family who enjoy getting out and about and can help him get back to a healthier weight. He loves swimming (but isn’t keen on baths!).
At home, Cerberus’ recall is very good, but once out and about he suddenly develops selective hearing, so he is no longer let off lead. He can be wary of unfamiliar dogs but we wonder if this may be down to lack of exposure in sociable settings that could be improved with a confident handler with time to train. Unfortunately, he cannot live with cats.
Cerberus is a pleasure around food; he’s not food aggressive, isn’t fussy, doesn’t snatch, and will happily wait when asked. You can even put your hand in his bowl while he’s eating. He knows his basic commands (sit, lay, wait) and has done some scent work, which he really enjoyed.
One area Cerberus does need support with is being left alone. He struggles with separation and can become destructive if left even for short periods. His current owners have tried crate training, but this caused him significant distress. At night he settles well, but during the day he needs to be close to his humans. For this reason, we are looking for a home where someone is around most of the time and is willing to work patiently and positively on his anxiety.
