Information on Adopting a dobie

How Our Adoption Process Works at Lincs

Step 1: Your Application

ID Reminder: Your identification must be both photographic and show the same address as your application form.

Step 2: Matching Your Needs

Every family (and every dog!) is different. If you have very specific requirements, for example, your new dog must be cat-friendly, good with young children, calm on and off lead, happy to travel, or able to be left alone, it can take longer to find a perfect match.
We promise to keep you in mind and work carefully to find the right fit.

Step 3: The Homecheck

Once we’re happy with your details and ID, we’ll arrange a Homecheck. Don’t worry it’s nothing scary! It’s simply to make sure your home and lifestyle suit one of our dogs.
A member of the team will arrange a convenient time to visit, chat with you about adoption, and have a look at your home and garden. They’ll take a few photos and complete a report for us.

Sometimes, we might come back with further questions or feedback, please don’t take offence. We’re simply making sure that every placement is safe and secure for the dog. If your fencing needs a little attention, for example, we’ll let you know why it’s important to fix it before we can approve your application. Everything we do is with the dog’s best interest at heart.

Step 4: Becoming an Approved Adopter

Once your homecheck is approved, you’ll be added to our Approved Adopters List. This means you’re all set and ready to be matched!

When new dogs come into our care, we look at what sort of home they need and then see who on our approved list might be the best match.

Step 5: Matching Takes Time

Some people are matched quite quickly, while others wait longer. If you have specific requirements; such as having cats, young children, or other pets, or are only looking for a young dog, please be patient. Rescue dogs often need a little extra support and training, so the more flexible and open you are, the sooner we can match you.

Don’t overlook an older dog! Many dogs aged 4+ make absolutely wonderful companions, and we’ve seen hundreds of happy endings from matches just like that. Please trust our experience, we’ll always try to place the dog that best fits your home and lifestyle, if you’re open to options please let us know.
